Aaron Foley: “How To Live In Detroit Without Being A Jacka**” | Talks at Google

22nd June 2018

Author & Detroit resident Aaron Foley discusses his book “How To Live In Detroit Without Being A Jackass”. Foley, a journalist and essayist whose work has appeared in the likes of CNN, The Atlantic, Forbes, Ebony, and BuzzFeed uses the base of his hometown of Detroit to dive into issues of race, class, urbanism, gentrification and pop culture in a unique, and often humorous, way.

Aaron’s social guidebook, as well as this Talk, provides comical perspective for coastal transplants, wary suburbanites, unwitting gentrifiers, curious onlookers, die-hard natives and everyone in between. Aaron provides advice to help avoid falling into the “jackass” trap and become the productive, healthy city-dweller that we’ve always wanted to be.
